Cat coins, pandas and other foreign coins

I was just wondering, for small time collectors like myself is it worthwhile to buy the foreign coins like the cat coins and the pandas and the aussie coins? I think they are really pretty and like the animal coins better then the Silver eagles. Would they hold thier value (beyond the coins weight) if purchased in the USA? So far I've gotten some good deals (at or below spot) on some of the smaller pandas and cat coins. Just looking for more input.

Have a great day,
Katie

Hi Katie,

I buy some Krugerrands when I can get a good deal. I haven't bought pandas because I am afraid it might be fake. There was a posting here about fake pandas on ebay not too long ago. I am hesitant about buying foreign coins because I wouldn't be able to tell if it was real or fake. I also tend to buy coins that I think will be easier to resell on Ebay.

Thanks Annie for the input.

Yes, I've seen some fake pandas on Ebay. So far I've been lucky in not getting screwed, but there's definately one seller on there that I'm leary of buying pandas from.

Hi Katie,
For me I wasn't willing to pay for the atractiveness of the coin. When it comes time to sell its mostly just the silver or gold in em that will count.
A salesman talked me into getting some of the Lunars but I plan on selling them to get the premium once I complete the set.
But if you enjoy the look of the coins enough to warrant the price over spot then go for it, still a good investment.
